Hi! My name is Sofie, I’m an illustrator, printmaker and surface pattern designer. I live in Waalre, which is a small village in the south of the Netherlands, near Eindhoven.

I’ve been drawing since I was a little girl, I was always sure I would be doing a creative job of some sort in the future. So I studied Graphic Design at the ArtEZ Academy of Arts in Arnhem. During that time, I had very little time to draw. It wasn’t a part of the education either, everything was done in Adobe software on the computer. After a few years, I started to realise I really missed drawing, creating things by hand. So I started creating again; drawing, painting, learning how to screen print on different materials, and so on… I opened up a store on Etsy where I could sell my prints and products. That was very exciting, it gave me a lot of joy.

In 2015 I became the mother of an awesome little girl, and in 2018 I gave birth to her (also very awesome) little sister. I’m the luckiest person to be alive! Motherhood slowed down the whole creating process, I can only do a little bit each day. So while our little girls play I plan ahead what I’m going to do once they’re in school/bed/away with dad… In 2016 I discovered I really like making linocuts and decided to focus on improving my skills. I invested in some very nice tools, paper and ink, and got my fingers dirty.

I incorporated my lino cutting skills in designing surface patterns, making stamps and creating a pattern with them. I uploaded some of these designs to motiflow.com, where you can buy 100% ecologically printed fabrics, giftwrap and wallpaper for your own DIY projects!

I really love the printmaking process, start to finish. To be able to fully work by hand, to not use any computer, is a very satisfying thing for me to do. It makes me eternally happy, and I hope my joy shines through in the work I’ve made!
