About Sofie

Hi! My name is Sofie and I’m a printmaker & illustrator. I live in Waalre (a small village near Eindhoven, the Netherlands), together with my partner, our two little girls and Zappa the cat.

I’ve been drawing since I was a little girl, and I was always sure I would be doing a creative job of some sort in the future. I ended up studying Graphic Design at the ArtEZ Academy of Arts in Arnhem. During that time I had very little time to draw, it wasn’t a part of the education either. After a few years I realised I really missed drawing, creating things with my hands. So I decided to just start again and get busy; drawing, painting, learning how to screen print on different materials, and so on.

In 2016 I fell in love with block printing and immediately felt this was for me. I decided to focus on improving my skills, invested in some very nice tools, paper and ink, and got my fingers dirty.

Subjects that often make an appearance in my work are nature, human figures, landscapes, sun & moon, and hair… lots of hair. You could describe my work as being full of details and textures. My relief prints are mainly black and white with a very small dash of color here and there, while with my drawings and paintings, I try to play with color and explore its possibilities.

In 2023, I was one of the Dutch winners of the Picture This! illustration contest, organized by Dutch publisher Lemniscaat. Winning took me one step closer to fulfilling my dream: making a children’s picture book.
